Beyond Good & Evil HD Updated Hands-On

Ubisoft showed off an updated version of the forthcoming HD update of Beyond Good & Evil for Xbox Live Arcade at Microsoft's CES press event. The game is now officially part of Microsoft's House Party event on Xbox Live, which kicks off in February. With the game's release tantalizingly close, Ubisoft showed off the latest work-in-progress version of the game, which featured three short segments to play. As longtime fans, we put the game through its paces and are happy to say it just keeps looking better.

The last time we played Beyond Good & Evil HD, the game had just been announced and was being shown for the first time. The playable version we tried at the time looked promising and hinted at the potential of its HD makeover. The latest version we played at Microsoft's press event made it clear that a lot of progress has been made on the game. The cave, hovercraft, and stealth sequences we played were comfortably familiar and looked fantastic. We're especially pleased to hear that the game's achievements will be geared toward encouraging players to explore the rich world and snap pictures of all the wildlife. While earning that achievement may not be for everyone, we have to say that those who haven't played the game need to spend some time off the beaten path and do some exploring when they get it. Exploration is often rewarded due to the fact that the world of Hillys is dense with content in all sorts of places.

There's not much left to say about the upcoming game other than that it looks great and that anyone who missed the game when it came out should snap it up when it's released. We reckon many folks will be surprised at how forward thinking the game's story is and how clever the gameplay can be. Beyond Good & Evil HD is slated for release between February and March during Microsoft's Xbox Live House Party.

Mass Effect 2 [Trailer][Screenshots]

Mass Effect 2, the action role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by EA is a sequel to … well, Mass Effect. The game was already released on PC and Xbox 360 in January 2010, and is due for release on PlayStation 3 in January 2011. That’s why we have a nice, new launch trailer…

A critical and commercial success, Mass Effect 2 had shipped over two million copies worldwide within a week of release, and has also received highly favorable reviews… no wonder they finally decided to work things out and release a PS3 version (which no doubt has PlayStation users chomping at the bit).

Official Synopsis… “Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying threat mankind has ever faced.

To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy’s most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, they say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong.”

Starcraft II Reviews & Tactics

starcraft ii reviews

Take your game to the next level

Starcraft II is the long awaited sequel to the strategy game Starcraft. Starcraft revolutionised the strategy game world with each and every ‘character’ or soldier able to advance in level on its own. Produced by Blizzard, famous for games in the strategy and roleplaying genres, Starcraft II offers just what gamers are looking for – better graphics, better game play and an almost endless gaming experience. We review the game and its tactics.

Likes

StarCraft II is split into three installments: the base game with the subtitle Wings of Liberty, and two expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. The real time strategy (RTS) game has excellent cinematography and audio with an immersive single-player experience. The good news is that Blizzard made sure that the game is still playable even on a low-spec PC without sacrificing much of the detail. The campaign offers a lot of variety and there is extensive choice given to the player resulting in a lot of replay and value for money.

Dislikes

Surprisingly, there is no LAN (networking) ability for multi-player gaming but has online connectivity support to play against opponents from all over the world. The game only features one campaign but with significant variety in game play, the game is far from a one note wonder. The Battle.net system has caused Blizzard to come into some very heavy criticism from players worldwide. Users have also complained of privacy issues with the RealID system forcing you to input your real details and taking away your anonymity.

Conclusion

Warning: Once you pick this up you may not want to put it down. StarCraft 2, the PC real-time strategy follow up to 1998′s StarCraft, it was always going to be hard to live up to the hype of the first release due to its overwhelming popularity. Despite only having one campaign, initial Star Craft II reviews show that the RTS video game is meeting all expectations in terms of sales. Games like this are popular and have longevity due to the constantly challenging games experience and online component.
