Ricoh’s new CX5 Digital Camera

Ricoh’s annouced the new CX5 DigitalCamera. It comes with a 10Mpix censor, 10.7x optical Zoom, a new fast AF thanks to Ricoh’s latest hybrid AF capable to give you a correct focus in just 0.2 seconds.
The CX5 also pack a 28mm wide lens, an ISO Speed up to ISO3200, a 720p video mode, 40MB of internal memory and support of SDHC as well as Eye-Fi cards.

Panasonic announces the Lumix DMC-FH5/S1, Rugged DMC-FT3, DMC-TX20 and DMC-FX77 Cameras in Japan

This morning Panasinic annunced its five new compact point and shoot lumix with the Lumix DMC-FH5/S1, Rugged DMC-FT3 (TS3 in North America), DMC-TZ20 (ZS10 in North America) and DMC-FX77 (FX78 in North America).

Lumix DMC-FH5

This DMC-FH5 comes with a 16.1 Mpix Censor, a 4x optical Zoom and 28mm Wide angle lens, Mega O.I.S, an ISO Speed up to ISO 6400, Ai Photo mode and iA Zoom. The FH5 comes with 70Mb of internal memory, SDXC Support and a 720/24p video mode.

Lumix DMC-S1

The DMC-S1 camera comes with a 12.1 Mpix Censor, Mega O.I.S, a 4x optical Zoom, an ISO Speed up to ISO 6400, Ai Photo mode, comes with 20Mb of internal memory, SDXC Support and a 720/30p video mode

Lumix FT3 (TS3 in North America)

The FT3 camera comes featuring a GPS and Full HD Video mode (1080/30p or 720/60p).
This model comes with a 12.1 Mpix censor with a 4.6x optical Zoom, a waterproof/Shocproof/Freezeprodd and Dusproof body, and unique 3D mode that will snap 20 shots at the same time and take the best of two in order to overlay them and produce 3D like picture for you.

Lumix TZ20 (ZS10 in North America)

The Z20 also features the FT3 3D photo mode, but comes with a 14.1Mpix censor and 16x optical Zoom with a 24mm wide angle, a 10fps burst mode, a 3″ touchscreen and a 1080p Video mode.

Lumix FX77 (FX78 in North America)

Finally the FX77 comes with a 12.1Mpix censor, a 3.5″ touchscreen with Touch Zoom, AF Tracking and Shutter playback, the 3D Mode found on the FT3 and TZ20, MEGA O.I.S and a Full HD AVCHD Video mode.

Helmet Cam – Swann Goes Shockproof with the Head-Mounted Sportscam

This is another one for those of you who like the outdoors but love your tech. The Swann head-mounted sportscam is shockproof, waterproof, and offers incredible functionality at a bargain price. So if you want to record your most adventurous outdoors adventures this is the puppy for you… unless you want HD.

No, this camera won’t give HD (or anywhere near it) and is limited to 640 X 480. However, the fact that you can cram 5 hours of footage on a little 16GB microSD card is nothing to sneeze at. That’s long enough for a bike ride up and down the mountain. Unfortunately, the rechargeable battery is only good for 2.5 hours so somewhere in there you have to rest for a recharge. Still, 2.5 hours of recording at a whack isn’t bad.

While the camera is intended to be (or at least works best when) head-mounted you’ll find a bunch of other accessories in the box so you can rig up your own customized mounting options if you wish. You can even use the camera outside its protective waterproof housing if you desire.

You wouldn’t expect to pay much for a camera with such low resolution in the days of the HD obsessed and you won’t have to. $99 gets you one of these when they go on sale in the US next month. You can save the rest of your cash to actually plan a vacation during which to use the camera.

Nikon Coolpix L22 Review

Point and shoot digital cameras are pretty handy if you cell phone/smart phone isn t one that boasts of an exceptional camera. So is the Nikon Coolpix L22 one to be carried around or will it be forgotten in a crowd? Lets find out!

Package and Contents

The packaging of the Nikon Coolpix L22 is the same as that of its younger brother the L21. The cardboard box houses 2 x AA alkaline batteries, a USB cable, Installation CD, manual, strap and the camera itself.


First Impression

The camera has a plastic body with a brushed aluminum finish with a standard black mat finish at the back and a coloured front (our review unit was a silver one). The camera is no eye catcher unless you pick up one the more fancy colours namely the red, blue or the black one. The device does feel solid in ones hands and the most striking feature is the 3-inch LCD display at the back.


Performance

For a box price of just Rs 7450, the device does pack quite a punch with an array of customizable features which begins with a maximum picture resolution of 12 MP, White balance options, continuous shoot, colour tone options (vivid, black and white, etc) and the same backlit options as its predecessor (the L21) such as portrait, landscape, night portrait, indoor, beach snow, sunset, dawn, the list is quite long.

In terms of actually clicking the images, the image quality is crisp at 12MP resolution, and can be viewed with great comfort on your big TV.

The lack of an SD card straight out of the box is felt as the device can click and store only 2 images taken at maximum resolution on the internal memory. The camera also runs on 2 x AA alkaline batteries. Out of an average pair of batteries expect to click around 240 images.

The 3-inch LCD is something that the device can boast about, as images look crisp and clear on it. The quick access buttons along side the menu button are well laid out on the right of the LCD.


Verdict

All in all this is a good entry level point and shoot for all those hoping to get good picture quality along with control over a few functionalities such as white balance, continuous shoot to name a few.

Tokina AT-X 16.5 135mm DX Lens introduced In The UK

Kenro has announced the availability of the Tokina AT-X 16.5 135mm DX lens for the UK. The lens provides an angle of view equivalent to 25-200mm. The Tokina AT-X 16.5 135mm DX lens also features three aspherical elements, which consist of an all-glass element and two precision molded composite components at high contrast. The new lens also supports two super-low dispersion (SD) glass elements to correct chromatic aberration. Additional specifications include a total of fifteen elements in nine groups for optical design, a multi-layer coating, a minimum focusing distance of 19.7 inches. and a rotating zoom system. Measuring at 84mm x 78mm and weighs 610 grams, the Tokina AT-X 16.5 135mm DX lens for Canon or Nikon DSLR will cost €799 ($ 1,121).
