Next iPhone images leaked, bigger display!

Now folks over at M.I.C Gadget got their hands on first leaked images of an iPhone which is completely different from the current model. As you can see in the image above, the screen size is slightly bigger than the current model and the display is edge-to-edge. I think this is the real iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 and the one we saw running on T-Mobile was just another prototype test version of White iPhone 4. It’s possible that this device will come with a dual-core A5 processor, 8 MP camera, and the latest unreleased version of iOS.

Sony W8 the first Walkman Android Phone

AT&T subscriber growth weakens, Lost the US right to Sell iPhone

AT&T Inc's first 3 months of 2011 subscribers growth weekend as it lost exclusive U.S. rights to sell the Apple Inc iPhone.

Its addition of 62,000 net contract customers in the quarter was better than the average expectation for a loss of 83,000 customers from seven analysts polled by Reuters.

AT&T earnings rose to $3.4 billion, or 57 cents a share, matching the average Wall Street estimate, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. A year earlier it posted a profit of $2.5 billion, or 41 cents per share.

Revenue rose 2.3 percent to $31.25 billion compared with analyst expectations for $31.26 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

AT&T shares were up 25 cents at $30.56 in premarket trading.

Its results came the day before the scheduled report of Verizon Communications, which owns Verizon Wireless along with Vodafone Group Plc. The Verizon Wireless iPhone hit stores Feb 10.

Samsung Sells 2 million Galaxy Tab

Its been a month ago when Samsung announced their sell of 1 million Galaxy Tab and now they’re confirming that the tablet has sold more than 2 million units. The latest million has been achieved in about a month or 3 months after Galaxy Tab’s global debut.

According to Yonhap News Samsung solds 500,000 units in Europe, 350,000 units in North America and about 330,000 units in Asia.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Tab’s successor next month at MWC.

Samsung TV Apps Store crosses 2 million downloads

It was just a couple months back when Samsung announced 1 million downloads for its TV Apps Store. Now they’ve announced that its TV-centric application store has surpassed 2 million downloads, indicating the positive response from the consumers.

The Samsung Apps for TVs allows users to purchase and download applications amongst a number of categories. Currently there are about 380 apps and 259 of them are free.

The first million downloads took about 268 days since the store’s launch whereas the next million took only 53 days.

Some of the highest downloaded apps include YouTube, Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, AccuWeather, Google Maps and Texas Holdem.

Meanwhile, Samsung expects to sell about 12 million Smart TVs this year, fueling further growth of the Samsung Apps for TV.

China to go into 4G telecom technology by 2015

China's homemade fourth-generation telecommunication technology TD-LTE that can download over 150 megabytes per second will be used globally by 2015, say Chinese industry experts.

The next-generation Time Division-Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) technology, currently under trial, is promoted by the China Mobile Communications Co.

"Many international operators have contacted China Mobile and expressed willingness to adopt TD-LTE networks," Chen Jinqiao, deputy chief engineer at the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), told China Daily.

He said the most likely partners in building the TD-LTE networks would come from Africa and Latin America, as many countries in these continents have a good relationship with China.

"They are more likely to accept China's technology, and TD-LTE may even help them make a leap forward directly from the 2G era to the 4G stage," said Chen.

The successful use of the technology in China will boost confidence in the product and encourage them to deploy TD-LTE networks, he added.


China Mobile, the world's biggest wireless operator by subscribers, said 15 TD-LTE trial networks have already been deployed in a number of countries.

Nine more test networks in cooperation with global telecom operators will be added during 2011, said Wei Bin, chief of the network research department with China Mobile Research Institute.

However, in mature markets, the promotion of China's TD-LTE technology will be difficult, due to competition from other 4G technologies, said Chen of CATR.

China Mobile is pinning great hopes on the new technology, as the company intends to use it to grab the market share both at home and overseas.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in October selected China's TD-LTE Advanced, an upgraded version, as one of the six international 4G standards.

An earlier Chinese version, the TD-SCDMA had failed because "it was inferior to rival 3G technologies like the WCDMA in terms of maturity and its use was only limited to China", the daily said citing experts.

The globalization of the TD-LTE technology is progressing well. Almost all major international telecom companies have pushed forward its development, said Tina Tian, chief telecom analyst with Gartner's China office.

Foreign telecom giants such as Ericsson and Alcatel Lucent and domestic companies like Huawei, ZTE and Datang have participated in the technical trials of TD-LTE with China Mobile.

The industry and information technology ministry last week announced that it approved wide-ranging tests of TD-LTE in six major Chinese cities, indicating that the technology is edging towards the commercial-use phase. The cities are Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen.

China Mobile said in a statement last Friday that the upcoming large-scale tests are aimed at exploring the commercial potential of the technology and to provide impetus for global telecom carriers to adopt and deploy the new network.

"Compared with China Unicom's WCDMA and China Telecom's CDMA2000, China Mobile's TD-SCDMA did not gain the upper hand in the 3G market, so the company has quickened the pace of promoting 4G technology in the hope of maintaining technology superiority," China Daily quoted Tian as saying.

Samsung has today launched its much awaited Galaxy Tab in the Indian market for a price point of Rs 38000. So here s a quick look at what this 7-Inch beauty has to offer.

For starters, I am proud to say that India is one of the first 3 markets where Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab and it s powered by none other than the latest version of the Android OS which is Android 2.2. Launched at the press event by none other than Gul Panag, Samsung claims that the device has been customized for the Indian Market.

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex portable HDD

We live in times when storing and carrying data on a portable hard drive is a very common thing. The tiny 128MB, 256MB, and even 1GB pen drives have quite literally been driven out of the entire gadget universe!

But the battle now is not about the capacity of the storage device. It is, rather, about the speed. We are well into the USB 2.0 era, and probably nearing the end of it as well. Enter USB 3.0- supposed to be faster than the predecessor.


Packaging and Contents

The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex hard drive comes along with a USB 2.0 cable. The drive does not come with any case, but to be fair, neither do any of it's rivals.


First Impression

It's too glossy! That is the very first reaction any scratch hating fingerprint detesting gadget lover like me!

The GoFlex is dressed in a completely glossy black body, which looks good probably on Mars, but on Planet Earth, the dust completely ruins the look in less than 5 minutes of the un-boxing.

The size of this drive, 500GB in capacity, is similar to the new WD MyPassport range, if only a little thicker. There is the proprietary connector which plugs into the drive, and it is through this connector that the USB cable connects to the drive. 


Performance

The drive comes pre-formatted in the NTFS format. Plug it in, and you are ready to drop files into it. The GoFlex also comes with the Seagate Dashboard software, which needs to be installed on the PC- optionally. This software can be used to sync files and folders between the PC and hard drive whenever the drive is connected.

The data transfer speeds of the drive is what matters in the end. This hard drive is the 5200rpm one (there is the GoFlex Pro which is a 7200rpm one). I transferred 1GB data (folder with a mixture of files- video, audio and text documents) to and from the hard drive.

The time it took to transfer this folder from the hard drive to the PC took just 19 seconds in the USB 2.0 mode. The reverse transfer from PC to the GoFlex took just over a minute.

In the USB 3.0 mode, the GoFlex to PC transfer took 16 seconds only! The PC to GoFlex transfer was completed in 45 seconds. Quite quick! Remember, the USB 3.0 mode only works with the compatible USB 3.0 cable.


Verdict

To get the speed boost of the USB 3.0, you will need to shell out about Rs 6500 for the 500GB GoFlex. There is the 320GB one available too, for Rs 5200, but then again, how long will 320GB last?!

Also, apart from the hard drive, you will need to also buy the USB 3.0 Upgrade Kit, which costs about Rs 6000.

The idea of a very fast hard drive seems nice, but at the moment is quite expensive. If you still want to take the jump to the next big thing, this hard drive will not disappoint you.

The iPod shuffle is compactly and neatly packed. Inside the plastic box you will find the iPod shuffle, an Apple sticker, a pair of earphones, and a really short USB cable along with the manual.

First Impressions

The new shuffle is really small and compact. Clip on a blue shuffle to a blue shirt and it is virtually invisible. The device itself feels solid but for all you music buffs, the lack of a screen is immediately felt even with the existence of the VoiceOver Feature. Last but not least; Apple, please change the headphones you provide with the device! At a 1st glance the earphones feel plastiky, and just refuse to stay put in my ears! Whenever I tilted my head left or right, the earphones just fell out.

Setup

Setting up the Shuffle is easy enough even if it isn t as easy as dragging and dropping songs. Download iTunes on your Windows or Mac system, import all your songs to iTunes, connect you iPod, Sync it to the System and Walla you are all set to Rock and Roll!

Performance

As a standalone MP3 player the Shuffle sounds really good and provides a battery life of up to 15 hours on a complete charge. The device took approximately 3 hours to reach 100% battery charge. Even though the VoiceOver kit is available from Apple for free which enables VoiceOver in 25 languages, it s sad to see that Hindi is not one of the options. The switch off, play in order and shuffle toggle along with the VoiceOver button are conveniently placed on the top of the device but may seem clumps to those with big fingers. The lack of a radio too is felt on the device.

Verdict

The iPod Shuffle is a very good entry level iPod but the lack of radio capability, and only 2 GB storage capacity for a price point of Rs 3200; you may want to consider your options such as the Philips Go Gear Mix 4GB MP3 player (Approx price is Rs 2799), Sony NWZ-B143F Walkman MP3 Player 4GB (Approx price is Rs 3449), Creative ZEN Mozaic 4GB MP3 Video Player (Approx price is Rs 4150), or the Transcend T.sonic TS4GMP320 (4 GB) MP3 Player (Approx price is 1970)

          Samsung today announced that they’ve created the industry’s first 3-bit-cell 64Gb (gigabit) NAND flash memory based on 20nm process technology.
